On New Year’s Eve, I received a special anonymous wish for the new year. I found this message on my work mobile phone and am not sure who sent it. All I know is that it must have been one of the few people at the NYC Hurricane Service Center that I gave my business card to. It reminds me that we can all make a difference, no matter how small. I hope that all those who have been forced to leave their homes following recent emergencies have received a warm welcome wherever they may find themselves this year.
Translation: “Wishing a happy new year to you and your loved ones. Thank you for everything that you do to help others. This is a message from a Boricua that you helped at the Julia de Burgos Center after I arrived following the hurricane in Puerto Rico. Once again thank you and happy new year.”
